RE: 'Tracking the anti-science wave: Commentary on the roots of distrust'
New piece in Christian Science Monitor; next edition on Monday
My first piece with Christian Science Monitor is up. Show it some love, if you have time this weekend/next week. Read, comment, and share, you know the deal!
This piece, “Tracking the anti-science wave: Commentary on the roots of distrust,” is on the “general anti-science, anti-authority, anti-vaccine feeling” decried by Dr. Fauci, long-serving director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, in June.
Fauci was expressing doubt that, even if a vaccine was on the scene, the U.S. could reach herd immunity status.
The piece walks through some of the history of anti-science sentiment in the U.S., and I wonder aloud if the reticence of scientists to enter the public sphere is partly to blame for the prevalence of junk theories.
Upcoming: The next edition of the newsletter will go out at 6:35 am PT on Monday. This one is on the secularism and the left. Should the left embrace spirituality more openly?
